Uroflowmetry
Uroflowmetry is a diagnostic test used to measure the amount of urine released from the body. This study allows to identify the disorder causing abnormalities in the bladder emptying through measurement of the urination rate, the amount of urine passed per second and the total voided urine volume.
Only toilet trained children can undergo this test.
How should I prepare for the scan?
- no fasting is required before the procedure,
- he child must be given extra fluid to drink within an hour before the test (0,3-0,5 liter of fluid depending on the child’s age),
- children with urinary urgency or frequency should check in for the test earlier and drink extra fluid within 30 minutes before the test,
- the child’s bladder must be naturally filled before the test.
How is the scan performed?
- The child will be asked to urinate into the special pot upon request. Ultrasound will be used to assess the amount of postvoid residual urine in the bladder.
